Theatre of the World – Discovering new approaches

This program offers a great opportunity to develop performance and creative thinking skills. Each term consists of eight sessions led by a professional theatre maker. Participants will learn various skills including acting, text analysis, voice, devising, audition technique, and how to work creatively as part of a group.
In term 4 students will explore the theatre of the world. Looking into innovative theatre companies and styles from around the world we will broaden our horizons on what theatre is and what it can be. We’ll use our discoveries to make some of our own scenes inspired by the world’s most exciting theatre makers. It’s all about discovering new approaches, being creative and having a bit of fun!
About the Teaching Artist, William Burns
William is a theatre director, actor, maker, tech and teacher.
He was most recently seen at The Court as Pinkie in Flagons and Foxtrots. Other Court Theatre credits include being a member of the Youth Company; sound and AV designer for Katzenmusik; co-director of Vernon God Little and director of The Unauthorised Biography Of…
His other theatre credits include Les Miserables and Miss Saigon (Showbiz Christchurch), Assistant Director of Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play (NASDA) and various projects with Two Productions.
William’s self-produced solo shows include Shit Finds Love, three shows with his alter ego Peter Partridge and The First Annual Parnell Croquet Club Facebook Live Telethon.
William is a teaching artist for the Court’s Education programme and is a member of Equity New Zealand.
