Term 3 Dates - Tuesday 27th July - Tuesday 14th September, 7:15pm - 9:15pm @ The Court Theatre, Addington
An opportunity to develop performance and creative thinking skills. Each term runs for 8 weeks and is taken by a professional theatre maker, participants will learn skills in acting, text analysis, voice, devising, audition technique and how to work creatively as part of a group.
Term 3 will be taught by Dan Allan.
William Shakespeare's plays are proving as popular as ever, with outdoor Summer Shakespeare a fixture of many a NZ town, and the Pop-up Globe bringing a new enthusiasm for The Bard's works to the masses. Beyond school experiences, many actors struggle with the seemingly alien requirements of a Shakespearean audition or production, and this may be keeping them from joining the fun!
Calling on his experience across multiple Shakespearean productions and a career of drama teaching experience, veteran theatre-maker Dan Allan will introduce the plays and context of William Shakespeare. In this class, we will demystify the texts, and reveal the beauty, charm and humour present in that thorny bramble of words. The students will work with several extracts of Shakespeare, culminating in the preparation of a tailored audition-ready monologue. They will gain a new appreciation for Shakespeare's plays, and a toolbox to help them tackle the thorniest comedy, tragedy or history!
